On Going Project

Here is the next installment of the continuing project I started last month with Sam Quinn (Images Here). This weeks features Mhairi @ Superior model management. The project started as a beauty study and an examination of how the model relates to his or her environment. The images will continue on the same theme and explore the possibility's of weaving the model with their surroundings. For now though have a happy viewing. Miss Emma Wilson @ Colours Modeling Agency. These are images from a test shoot done way back in July 2009. I'm enjoying looking back at the work of 09. Emma styled herself on this shoot, with Jak Morgan doing the painting of the eyes and lips. Really enjoyed working with Emma and hope to catch her again in 2010.

Lern To Pleat/Braid

Everyday is a school day they say. And the other day was no exception! A life skill I somehow managed to make it to 30 without needing I have now mastered and am teaching on to others... Many thanks to Mhairi for her instruction and her therapeutic tearing of sheets. Am I good at braiding? Heck no! I dare say there are others more qualified to teach the intricacy's of pleating or braiding, but..... A lesson passed on with enthusiasm is a lesson worth having right?

I seem to be sitting on lots of images from the end of last year. Most are shoots done for advertising or magazines but a few were just for fun, So I thought Id have a flick through what I have and post one from Holly's shoot last year. I love shooting with Holly she cuts some fantastic shapes and is a hoot along with it.

This image was taken on the streets of Edinburgh. They were shot with one speedlite and an shoot through umbrella. I'm a huge fan of simple lighting at the moment. If i can do it with one that that's what I'll do. It is of course a phase I'm sure and ill be back to 57 lights before the end of the year. But for now simple is really doing it for me.

One from today

Today was a rushed visit to Glasgow's Contrast Studios to do 2 fashion shoots. The editing starts tomorrow of the rest of the 2 shoots we did today. But just like Christmas its nice to open one before bed! So even with the tight time limit in the studio we had time to squeeze in this image just for you at the end of the shoot. This is Miss Lisa Lewis currently celebrating her second week with agents Superior Model Management. All the best Lisa! Styling on this shot was done by Angela Corrigan.

POSED magazine editorial shoot

Last June I was selected as a contributing photographer for a new Scottish fashion and photography publication. The magazine is split into two sections the first a 'MUSE' section where each of the photographers were asked to take photos of the first editions muse Stephanie (Superior Model Management) . The clothes were supplied by American Apparel and other than those two factors we had free reign to do as we pleased. The above shots are taken from the session with Stephanie, I was keen to do something a little different with the look of the images and played with a few ideas before opting for the above effect. Stephanie is a former Beauty Queen and I wanted to wrap these images up with a tie-in between her and the wardrobe selected for me. This of course came in the form of the American flag. Its existence in these images is to show the American influence over both our style and our now common place searches for beauty.

The second Section was the 'Quote' section. Again a very limited brief letting the involved photographers really run with their ideas. The above images are a set entitled 'The illusion of symmetry' Its focus is on the imperfect nature of both body and textile. The Model Mhairi (Superior Model Management) was asked to keep as straight as possible to allow this effect to work. The Images range from fun, to unusual, to uncomfortable. The body seems almost contorted in some, but each image holds a quiet pulchritude thanks to Mhairi's hard work in front of the lens.

Its Raining Its Pouring

Mistakes Happen Right...?

Unfortunately, every now and then, there is a bum shot. Underexposed or not quite how you wanted it. It happens. So here is a wee section on how I deal with it. I'm gonna post a few videos like this over the next few weeks with some more detail and close up shots on some of the techniques I use. Enjoy!

RIP the skinny fashion pages

So after a run with the skinny fashion section it looks like it has come to a nice natural end. Onward and upward they say. So as a final farewell I thought I would post the whole of the last skinny shoot (despite having posted one of the images just a few days ago) and a few wee extras.


So first up is make up! Zoe sits calmly as she is told we are gonna smear lipstick on her, mess up her hair and rip holes in her tights.... The shoot was based around 'little line up' and the girls do a spot of fighting along with some head shots etc.

So first up was Mhairi, (whom I've been doing lots of tests with over the past month so I'm sure you'll see more of her) Ian Tod with one D was styling like his life depended on it. Love his energy on shoots, he always brings it. It really makes a huge difference to a shoot when you are all bouncing off one another.
